Abby will be speaking about her book: No Child Left Alone: Getting the government out of parenting. You've seen the headlines: Parents criminalized for allowing their children to walk to the park alone; a restricted-calorie diet is imposed on every public school student in the name of health, the Consumer Product Safety Commission bans games and toys that haven’t caused any harm, states ban licensed daycare from swaddling babies at naptime in the name of safety. And what of the cases that don’t make the news? There are dozens of children who have been taken from their parents for the “crime” of being obese. In No Child Left Alone: Getting the government out of parenting (Encounter 2016), journalist Abby W. Schachter chronicles the all-too-common experience of parents who find the government getting between themselves and their kids. No Child Left Alone exposes this pervasive state interference into private family life, while highlighting and encouraging those parents – dozens of Captain Mommies and Daddies – who have decided to fight the law and are trying to win back their rights.
